I decided to change careers and become a teacher in 2003, after working for 14 years as a manager in the medical export industry, and started at VHS in October 2003. I received my BA in Japanese from Brigham Young University way back in 1987, then I completed my masters degree in business administration in 1989, also from BYU. I also attended Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan in 1985, and I received my single-subject teaching credential in Spanish in 2004 from Chapman University in Orange.

Every year I take students to various countries in the world--in the past few years we've visited Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, the UK, and Mexico. These are not school- or district-sponsored events, so they are open to anyone who wants to go. Let me know if you are interested in joining us on a future trip!

Because my father was a pilot in the US Air Force when I was growing up, I had the opportunity to live in many different places--I was born in Massachusetts and later lived in Mississippi, Montana, Utah, Texas, and Germany, all by the time I was in middle school. In fact, by the time I was in high school I had attended 9 different schools, so I remember well what it's like to be a new student. While in college I also lived in Nagoya and Osaka, Japan, and Puebla, Mexico. I love both the Mexican and Japanese cultures and I hope that I can instill that love in my students!
