Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!  I am looking forward to a year full of challenges and triumphs as we study one of the most spoken, and learned languages in the world - Spanish.  Students in Spanish 2 Honors will continue to build upon the foundations of the Spanish language learned in Spanish 1 through many communicative activities, cultural events, and authentic assessments.
In my years of teaching and coaching I feel that I am part of the "big" picture here at Valencia.  I know the staff and how the school functions and how best to serve the students.  Of course, there is always room for improvement.  If I see that something can work better for this year's students I will work it into my teaching and hopefully it will be beneficial to their learning modalities.

EDUCATION
I received  my degree in Architectural Technology from Mount San Antonio College in 1991 and graduated in 1994 from Cal State Fullerton with a B.A. in Spanish.
I began my teaching career at VHS in 1993 teaching Spanish and ESL Reading.  I have been solely in the World Languages department since 1999 teaching Spanish 1, 2, 3, and 4AP/IBSL, and Native Speakers classes.
I received my credential from Chapman University and continued my studies to receive a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the same university in 2002.

World Language communicative expectation and participation
The World Languages department at Valencia High School offers Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish in all levels.  The expectation in World Languages is that students will continue in the language all four years and become fluent in the language that they have chosen.  Therefore it is imperative that all classes strive to be conducted in the target language with English support given at the lower levels and the target language used exclusively in the higher levels.  English support in Spanish will be offered in levels one and two and after class or after school in the higher levels.
