3,300 students from across the United States auditioned for the National Honor Choir and 339 were accepted into the High School Honor Choir. Kyle will join them in Salt Lake City, Utah in February and sing under the direction of André J. Thomas, director of choral activities at Florida State University. The students will rehearse for 3 days and perform in 3 concerts, joining the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and David Archuleta in the final concert held in the 21,000 seat LDS Conference Center.
Valencia's Choral Director, Megan Arthurton, has had 10 students selected for regional honor choir in her career and 5 students selected for the all-state honor choir. This is the first time a student from Valencia High School has been selected for the national honor choir.
