Student Body Constitution
Valencia High School
Article I
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Associated Student Body of Valencia High School.
Section 2: The purpose of the Associated Student Body shall be to stimulate higher ideals for better education, and to promote school spirit.
Section 3: The high school emblem shall be the silhouette of a tiger head.
Section 4: The school colors shall be blue and gold.
Article II
Section 1: All students holding an Associated Student Body Card shall be members of the Associated Student Body.
Section 2: An Associated Student Body Card signifies that the yearly organizational dues have been paid. The dues shall be regulated by the Student Council.
Section 3: Only members of the Associated Student Body of Valencia High School shall be eligible to hold an elected office or a Student Body representative office. All members of a monetarily subsidized Associated Student Body extracurricular activity required to hold an ASB card.
Article III
Section 1: The Student Council at Valencia High School shall exist to serve and represent the Student Body.
Section 2: The Student Council shall consist of the following elected officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Senior Class President, Junior Class President, Sophomore Class President and Freshman Class President. The Secretary will not be an elected office and will be appointed by the Executive Council. These officers shall comprise the Executive Council of the Associated Student Body. The President, Vice President and Treasurer shall be elected via a general student body election. The Class Presidents shall be elected by their respective classes.
Section 3: The Student Council shall consist of 45-55 members, plus any foreign exchange students attending Valencia High School. The following positions shall be filled via recommendation and/or interview process conducted by the Executive Council of the Student Body: Boys Athletic Commissioner (1), Girls Athletic Commissioner (1), Activities Commissioner (4-5), Communications Commissioner (4), Technology Commissioners (3-4), Spirit Commissioners (4), Inter-Club Council President (1) , Public Relations Commissioner (1), Academic Commissioner (2), Community Affairs Commissioner (4), Campus Relations (3-4), Freshman Co-Vice President (2), Leadership Commissioners 7-15).
Section 4: The following positions shall be filled through the recommendation and interview process outlined in section 5a and 5b: Boy’s Athletic Commissioner and Girls Athletic Commissioner. The following positions shall be filled solely through the interview process: Activities Commissioner, Communications Commissioner, Community Affairs Commissioner, Campus Relations Commissioner, Freshman Co-Vice Presidents, Leadership Commissioners, Inter-Club Council President, Public Relations Commissioner, Technology Commissioners, Academic Commissioner and the Spirit Commissioner.
Section 5a: Recommendation Process
1. The appropriate athletic director shall receive letters of petition from students at large.
2. The appropriate department head shall recommend students to the Executive Council to be interviewed from the position.
3. Interview appointments shall be set for the recommended dates by the Dean of Student Activities.
Section 5b: Interview Process:
1. Prospective council members shall submit an application to Dean of Student Activities.
2. The Dean of Student Activities shall assign interview appointments to all petitioners.
3. Interviews shall be conducted by the ASB Executive Council. All persons interviewed will be rated on a scale of 1-10 by each member of the Executive Council. The Dean of Student Activities shall vote only in the event of a tie. Individual scores shall be combined for a total score for each candidate. The candidate receiving the highest tabulation of scores shall be the Executive Council’s initial choice for the petition.
4. The Activities Director has a right to speak on the behalf of students not selected by the Council. The Executive Council has a right to refuse his or her recommendations; its initial choice of candidate becomes the holder of the position.
Section 6: Each member of the Student Council shall be suspended from committee work when working for their particular office.
Section 7: Any officer not working to benefit his/her office and the school at large may be impeached by a two-thirds majority vote of the Student Council or the Dean of Student Activities and/or the Principal. A contract stipulating the Student Council Code of Ethics shall be signed by each officer and his/her parents by the beginning of the school year.
